How Do You Say What's Your Address in Spanish

Hola and welcome to a new lesson. Let's start by saying that DIRECCIÓN means address, so we usually ask other people their DIRECCIONES or share our DIRECCIÓN with them. Saying your address in Spanish, whether it is your house or email address may be a little tricky sometimes and the way to do it may vary from one country to another. In this lesson you will learn how to write your and say both your house and email addresses in Spanish through several audio examples and simple explanations.

In the picture below you can see three major points in this lesson: how to ask for an address in Spanish, the basic way to give a house address and a little about the format for email addresses as well. All of these things will be covered with more details in the rest of the lesson.

The format to say your address in Spanish

The right question for "what is your address in Spanish"

First, we will learn some usual ways to ask other people where they live. For this purpose, we can use two questions:¿Cuál es tu dirección? and ¿Dónde vives?/¿En dónde vives?. The first question requires a specific house address in Spanish to get to the place, whereas the second one requires just a little bit of information like the name of the neighborhood, the street, the city or even the country depending on the context of the conversation.

Saying my house address in Spanish

It is important to remember that places' names are never translated. For example, to say "My address is 5230 Evergreen Road" we should translate the entire sentence, but not the name of the street. Normally, the right way to say a house address in Spanish involves any of these two formats:

1. "Mi dirección es + dirección", e.g. "Mi dirección es el 5230 de la calle Evergreen
2. "Yo vivo en + dirección (house address in Spanish)" , for example: "Yo vivo en el 4467 de la calle Thompson".

It is also possible to say this house address without "Yo vivo en…", just as simple as "4467 de la calle Thompson". Something you should know is that the format for addresses in Spanish may be different to the format used in countries like "Los Estados Unidos". One of the reasons is that some countries in Latin America lack the correct city planning to name streets or assign numbers to all the houses. Considering this, getting to places is all about asking the locals, reading signs or finding examples of addresses as used in the area. In some Latin American countries addresses can be very messy. Most of the time, it is always useful to use other places in town as a reference.

Here are several audio examples using the ways to ask and say an address in Spanish explained above. To get somebody else's email, we may ask ¿Cuál es tu dirección de correo electrónico? or ¿Cuál es tu correo electrónico?. It is also possible to keep the word EMAIL in English and most people will understand.

The servers' names (gmail, yahoo, hotmail, etc.) are usually pronounced the same way they sound in English, but it is also possible to pronounce them as they are written in Spanish.
